YOUNITY YOUTH FRESHER WORKSHOP 2009

YOUNG WOMENS LEADERSHIP x YOUNTY x BIG CITY WALL PRODUCTION

All of July the YOUNITY crew has been involved in painting at THE SECRET GARDEN in Bushwick. MAMA from BIG CITY WALLS organized the production, in addition she organized 3 youth workshops with 3 different artists who got down on the wall. TOOFLY, EROTICA, and myself had different schools we were teamed up with to create art with the kids using a FRESHER theme we incorporated on our production at THE SECRET GARDEN. 40 girls from the YOUNG WOMENS LEADERSHIP SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAM came on a bus from Jamaica Queens to get down and create some art. IT WAS A BLAST!

DAY 1- All the girls got the tour of the wall and we spoke about what YOUNITY does. They were given their task to each create a sketch incorporating what the FRESHER theme means to them. They were then asked to take the best of each sketch and compile it into 1 sketch for that group.

DAY 2- We all worked in the same teams and transferred our sketch to canvas. Each team used spray paint, paint markers, acrylic and latex paint. The final product looked great! GOOD JOB LADIES:)

FRESHer camping retreat

Last weekend we spontaneously took a much needed trip to the woods- CAMPING style. It was so great to get out the city and breath some fresh green air.

Toofly surprised us with the new 2009 FRESHER shirts she designed which we rocked all day-got so many compliments on them in town- love them!!!

we went to the art center by Phoenicia and they had a beautiful garden- our next fall YOUNITY retreat will be there:)

this was the first time any of us had seen a real lotus flower- SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

The campgrounds we stayed at was upstate by the town of Phoenicia. Kenneth Wilson Campgrounds. On our way home we stopped thru Woodstock which was nice. Loved the crew we were with- we pitched a tent at night, we trooped it in the rain and all with lots of laughs and love. Cant wait to do it again with ALL of our crew:)

4th of JULY

Been so busy these past few weeks, I havent had a chance to update… 4th of July was dope! I painted at Afro-Punk and then went to a party with the ladies in BK. We wanted to watch the fireworks but we were so tired from painting that we couldnt deal with finding a good location to peep them. As we went home from BK party we got to pull over on the BQE like all the rest and watch them while taking great flicks. Great way to end the night

THE SECRET GARDEN/ JUNE-JULY

For the past month a bunch of us ladies have been painting a huge wall at “THE SECRET GARDEN” in BK. It has been so much fun- thanks to EMILIA WILES for organzing this wall and making it happen. Some of the ladies on the wall include Erotica, Diva, Jes, Madge, Mama, Fever, Toofly, Nea, Kstar and me. It was definitely a great experience painting with all these ladies and contributing art to this magnificent garden- Thanks to JOSEPH for maintaining the garden and of course to Avellar Hansley for keeping the land and making it into such a great place for the community!!!
