This past week was a really busy week, we were out almost every night supporting different events. Monday night was really dope- I got to catch up with my homie Invincible from Detroit which was a real treat. She showed her dope films “Locusts” and “People Not Places” at Rebel Diaz Arts Collective in BX. This place is a super chill spot that really does great things for our community. A-alikes was there also showing there film “The Ballot or The Bullet” which was really mind opening and revolutionary. Directly after the movies there was a panel discussion with the artists about their films and then they performed. It was really moving to see how community really needs to rise up and do the DAMN THING! Check out some of the flicks:

Tuesday I attended a fundraiser at Bronx Botanical Gardens for my new school Bronx Charter School for Better Learning. This school is so supportive of new teaching methods and really focuses on child centered learning. They teach in a more constructivist approach which I’m really excited to be part of as an arts coordinator in the fall.

Wednesday, some of the YOUNITY crew attended “All the Ladies Say” film screening and panel at Bronx Museum of the Arts. Rokafella, Aruna, Aiko, Baby Love, Beta, Vendetta, Lady Champ and some of the other amazing b-girlz were there reppin. The film documents these b-girlz as a chronicle of the times. Of course it was very inspiring and dope to see our peeps doing their thing!

Thursday, Toofly and I met with Emilia Wiles who is now YOUNITY’s new Education Program Director. We had dinner at this new cute dim sum spot on 13th and 5th. Welcome to the team Emilia!!!

We ended up going to Southpaw that night to support a fundraiser for autism. Ladies Love NYC hosted the fundraiser and put together a bunch of artists including Bilal. It was a great night, got to see many YOUNITY peeps: live painter Marthalicia, Fly Ladi Di, Lichiban, Jen One, Jasmine Solano, Suzy from VONY and Michele from Ladies of Hip Hop. Great to build with women doing their thing:)

Art was super dope by Upendo Taylor and Ron Upperman at this cute store called Public School. The show will be up for a month so check it out. I didnt get any flicks but click on link and u can see some.

Saturday was Emilia’s bday party and afterwards we met with some of our peeps at Club Love for Rich Medina/ DJ Spinna party. Dope Fela Kuti and James Brown tunes…

The week ended with a Sunday brunch with our homegirls Aruna from Rotterdam and Big Tara. We saw Aruna off to the airport and then headed back to the criznib for a long needed nap…
