Hi all,

Its been a minute since I last posted- I apologize for the disconnect. I just moved my apartment and well we all know what it’s like to uproot your home and relocate it. Especially when you been in the spot for 8 years. My landlord raised the rent $600 in my Sunnyside, Queens neighborhood and thats when I realized- she’s nuts and I had to go! GREEDY SLUMLORDS- New York is filled with them. The positive thing is I got a dope new spot in LIC/ Astoria border right by the water and parks and in a community that I have done a lot of work in- Welling Court. My new landlord is a community organizer and activist and I can actually chill with him, what a relief!!!! So with that I think my move is a positive one and I am truly looking forward to building more with my new community. I am also excited for my long walks to the park and bike rides along the water to come!!!!

On a biz note- I have 3 shows coming up. The first is a show with @MightyTanaka who has been repping me for the past year or so- I enjoy working with Alex, he is good people. It’s important for me to work with honest people who are truly making things happen in our community and contributing to the support of artists who need it….

Harlem, NY – Heath Gallery is proud to present “Danger to the Darkness”, a group art exhibition and fundraiser in support of The A21 Campaign, an organization committed to abolishing slavery and human trafficking in the 21st century.As passionately expressed by co-founder Christine Caine, the tragedy of kidnapping and sexual exploitation is a very real, prominent evil that can be prevented and eliminated through education, awareness, and action. Enter: Heath Gallery, with a fresh army of art activists.

“Danger to the Darkness” enlists creative minds from all disciplines to share glimpses of those powers that shine light into the dimmest corners of our collective existence.The walls of the landmark Harlem brownstone will be lined with thoughtfully assembled, personal images of redemption and triumph, and whose manifestations are fundamental testaments to the fortitude and resilience of the human spirit.

The Heath Gallery family invites you to join in contemplation and support of an urgent cause – one that can often seem worlds away.

Proceeds from the sale of all exhibited artwork will be used towards creating a safer, more peaceful global community via The A21 Campaign. Donations will also be accepted on a continuous basis throughout the duration of the exhibition. Back to back- nonstop this fall!!! I’m so ready for a rested vacation on the beach somewhere secluded. No rest for me until after my next solo show at Weldon Arts this winter. For this art basel me and my studio collective went to Miami to do a show at Miami Light Project. We did an exhibition entitled PREMIERE and an exterior mural production. It was so much fun! Thanks to the staff at Miami Light Project- Beth Boone, Sevim, Rebekah, Estelle, Megan, Simone and Justin. PURPLE recap

Hi all,

It has been a crazy whirlwind of shows, murals and events this season. NONSTOP. The PURPLE exhibition was a great success and I felt really great about showing next to some of the dopest ladies in the game today. Please see some recap photos to get a sense of how the show went if you weren’t there.

Thanks to all the artists in the show- Diana McClure, Gilf!, Lady Pink, Lichiban, MissVan, Olek, Priscila de Carvalho, Queen Andrea, Ritzy Periwinkle, and Sofia Maldonado. I also want to give a very special thank you to Tracy, Nina and Mark at Causey Contemporary Gallery who have been a great pleasure to work with for this exhibition. “THROUGH MY LENS” Recap- Tel Aviv 2012

My trip to Israel this summer was eye opening and enlightening. I discovered things about my family history that I have been searching for. I found out my dad’s side of the family migrated to Israel from Cordoba, Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. I met some family members who I havent been connected to in over 15 years and I visited places my parents lived and worked in Tel Aviv. I decided to use this new information I gathered in my second solo exhibition at Bazel Gallery. One spot I was particularly inspired by was a place near Rehov Hamasger where my dad worked in the 50′s. Currently this place is facing demolition and it once was the heart of the auto industry. My dad worked there for many years before migrating to New York. I was enamored by the tin shacks and the semi demolished walls that possessed so much character and history. I collected bits and pieces of the walls that were being torn down. After returning to this location numerous times I came across this wall- the very last wall standing in this area. I felt like I was collecting pieces of my dad’s history that were about to disappear forever. The significance of this place and remaining wall was included in my installation at the gallery. It is a mixture of pieces I collected from this site as well as old frames I found at markets and antique frame shops. check out the pics below.

Eleven Female Artists take over Causey Contemporary Gallery in an exhibition exploring the color Purple

August 2012, Brooklyn, NY — This autumn, eleven female contemporary artists will explore Purple as a color, word and psychological context in a freestyle exhibition where medium, formal strategies and process intersect to create original content.

Purple will be on view at Causey Contemporary Gallery, 92 Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, from October 19 – November 18, 2012, with an opening reception from 6pm – 9pm on Friday, October 19^th. This exhibition is produced by YOUNITY, an international collective of urban female visual artists, designers and craftswomen. The collective collaborates on creative projects, resource networks, mentoring of youth, community building, and the production of art exhibitions that promote women in the arts.

Curated by Diana McClure and YOUNITY co-founder Alice Mizrachi, this exhibition features a group of internationally recognizable street, mural, urban and contemporary artists from across the United States and abroad including: Alice Mizrachi, Diana McClure, Gilf!, Lady Pink, Lichiban, Miss Van, Olek, Priscila De Carvalho, Queen Andrea, Ritzy Periwinkle, and Sofia Maldonado.

From electric purple, Tyrian purple and Han purple, to purple prose, purple patches and human color psychology, the color purple has been tapped by the musician Prince, the author Alice Walker, the French art publication Purple Journal, and the ancient world, to convey a certain psychological vibration, spiritual energy or visual message. In this exhibition, each artists’ interpretation of purple aims to unlock new readings on the visceral, intellectual, conceptual, spiritual and pleasurable aspects of the color purple.

Bazel Gallery presents Alice Mizrachi in a solo exhibition entitled Through My Lens

August 2012, Tel Aviv, Israel — This summer, Alice Mizrachi presents a series of new works that explore the artist’s vision. Through My Lens is an observation of people, objects and characters the artist sees on the streets and how she interprets them.

Through My Lens will be on view at Bazel Gallery, 1 Hashlah Street in Tel Aviv, Israel, from August 16- September 16, 2012, with an opening reception from 18.00- 22.00 on Thursday, August 16.

Curated by Bazel Gallery, this exhibition features work from a native New York street artist, Alice Mizrachi with a focus on figurative works. From her travels and people she meets on the street, Alice Mizrachi has captured the essence of each person shown with a raw sensitivity to color and line. Mizrachi’s vivid artworks interprets a magnified lens through which she observes individuals.

“I am inspired by things I see on the streets; objects, personalities, faces, and ways of life. I aim to capture the emotions of the individuals I see with a spontaneous rhythm” .

Alice Mizrachi is a Queens based artist, curator, educator and community organizer. With a focus on the figure abstracted through color, line and pattern, Mizrachi’s work draws from an inner reserve of spontaneous raw emotion. As a master of materials, grounded in painting and printmaking, her respect for the mediums she works with is as important as the charged imagery she creates. She has exhibited work in galleries and museums worldwide including Powerhouse Gallery, Colette, Fifty 24LA, Crewest, Intermedia Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art in DC, and The National Women’s Museum in DC and most recently in solo shows in Paris and Tel Aviv. With strong ties to the urban art world, Mizrachi’s early work focused on the vibrant tranquility of city life and earned her profiles in niche publications Giant Magazine, Juxtapoz and Square Rootz. In addition to work on 2D surfaces, she has painted murals worldwide and begun to delve into sculptural objects made from found materials. With over 10 years of experience as an Arts Educator, Mizrachi has merged all of her interests as co-founder of the YOUNITY Arts Collective since 2006. The all-female urban art collective produces a variety of creative enterprises annually including exhibitions, panel discussions, mural productions, and youth workshops. Mizrachi is also a graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York City.

Inspired by the process of Batik fabric dyeing, participants use bleach instead of wax to create their own neighborhood-inspired textiles. Use your imagination and bleach to make a design that reflects a part of your neighborhood, whether it’s a person or place, past or present.
